The 7th Oxford Interdisciplinary Desert Conference is taking place this March at the School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford.

This biennial event serves as a platform for academics, practitioners, and residents engaged with the world’s desert and semi-desert regions. It fosters interdisciplinary dialogue across the humanities, social sciences, physical sciences, and environmental sciences. The conference aims to address real-world challenges in arid lands, emphasizing the significance of dryland research in biodiversity, mineral wealth, geopolitics, and population dynamics. Notably, the United Nations has designated 2024 as the ‘Year of the Camelid’ and 2026 as the ‘Year of Rangelands and Pastoralism,’ underscoring the global relevance of these topics.
