Overview

Woodlands is a newly refurbished, three-bedroom home on a quiet residential street in Charlbury — one of the Cotswolds' most appealing small towns, with a train station offering direct services to London Paddington, several good pubs, a coffee shop and deli, and a supermarket all within easy walking distance.

The interiors are modern and finished with care throughout. The ground floor is built around a large open-plan kitchen, dining and living area with bi-fold doors opening directly onto a private rear patio — the natural place to end the day outside. The kitchen is well equipped for home cooking, with a double oven, induction hob, integrated dishwasher and American-style fridge-freezer; a raised breakfast bar with seating for four works equally well for working mornings. A separate carpeted sitting room with reclining sofas provides a quieter space to properly unwind, while the downstairs cloakroom — tiled in a striking geometric white and gold — adds a considered design touch.

Upstairs, three spacious bedrooms sleep up to six. The principal bedroom is a genuinely large, vaulted-ceiling room with an easy chair, grey painted furniture and a walk-in en-suite shower room with metro tiles, overhead rain head and LED mirror — set under the eaves for character. The family bathroom has a full-length bath with glass screen and overhead shower, set against warm travertine-effect stone tiles and an oak vanity unit. The two further bedrooms are light and well-proportioned; one looks over Charlbury's rooftops, the other has mirrored glass sliding wardrobes and a geometric rug that give it a clean, modern feel.

A strong base for the Cotswolds and beyond — Chipping Norton and Woodstock are close by, Oxford is under 40 minutes by car, and London Paddington is just over an hour by train from Charlbury station.

The Neighbourhood

Charlbury sits in the Evenlode Valley in West Oxfordshire, surrounded by the ancient Wychwood Forest and framed by rolling Cotswold countryside — brilliant walking country right on the doorstep. It's a proper market town with its own high street, deli, Co-op and independent shops, and a train station sending direct services to London Paddington in just over an hour. The food and drink scene punches well above its size: The Bull recently won UK's Best Pub at the National Bar and Pub Awards 2025 and is headed by Michelin-starred chef Sally Abe (as seen on the Great British Menu), while The Rose & Crown features in the Telegraph's Best 500 Pubs 2025, with eight rotating real ales and traditional guest ciders. Beyond Charlbury, the Cotswolds open up quickly — Chipping Norton and Woodstock are both under 10 minutes' drive, Blenheim Palace is 7 miles away, and quintessential stone-village towns like Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-Marsh are all within half an hour.

The house was great and all spotlessly clean. The kitchen is fully equipped with good quality kitchenware which makes it a pleasure to cook in the house- unusual for a rental property. We had an issue with the dining chairs being unsteady and coming apart but this was resolved pretty quickly. The hosting company and the owner seemed genuinely keen to sort this out for us which was much appreciated.
As per previous reviews the plumbing is very noisy but not in a way that would spoil your stay.

Good quiet location, close to local amenities. Spacious and clean. Comfortable stay. Cot and high chair provided as requested.
The floor boards upstairs were very creaky. Hot water pressure downstairs was non-existent. Hot water upstairs triggered a pump that was quite noisy whenever taps were turned on.

Very spacious and well equipped. Boiler wasn’t working when we arrived but managed to get it restarted. Needs a Bluetooth speaker or similar.

Great place! Very relaxing and artistic. We loved how spacious, bright, airy, modern and artistic it was, with homely touches too etc plants, pictures, hooks etc. It was spotlessly clean and the beds were so comfortable. It was warm and the heating worked well. We enjoyed the peacefulness of the place. It was so quiet as if we were in the middle of the country. The online manual was so thorough and helpful, with the pictures and videos too. It was a lovely touch to have the hospitality tray with drinks and lovely biscuits, which we enjoyed. We also appreciated the milk which was in the fridge and 2 pints, not just a one pint bottle!!
