Short Let Space Are Going Plastic Free

Short Let Space Moves to Refillable Toiletries to Cut 12,000 Plastic Bottles a Year!

At Short Let Space, we’re proud to announce that we are on track to eliminate single-use plastic toiletries across our entire portfolio by January 2026. This forms a key part of our long-term commitment to providing more eco-friendly, sustainable short-term rentals throughout Oxford, the Cotswolds, and surrounding areas.

Transitioning away from single-use plastics has taken time, dedication, and collaboration with our homeowners, housekeepers, and suppliers. But the impact is significant: with an average of two bathrooms per property across our portfolio, we estimate that we could otherwise have used more than 12,000 single-use plastic toiletry bottles every year. That is a considerable amount of unnecessary waste entering the environment, something we are determined to change.

Our Refillable Solution: Quality, Practical, and Sustainable

The most effective and environmentally responsible approach has been to switch to high-quality refillable glass dispensers for all guest toiletries. These are now being rolled out to each bathroom, W.C., and kitchen across our properties. Our housekeeping teams are fully trained to refill all dispensers during every clean, ensuring a consistent, hygienic, and premium experience for guests.

Not only does this reduce plastic waste, but it also enhances the look and feel of our holiday cottages, serviced homes and apartments. Guests increasingly prefer properties that offer sustainable toiletries, and refillable solutions are now considered best practice in the hospitality sector.

Supporting Homeowners Through the Transition

We recognise that rising costs across the industry mean that not all homeowners were able to make the switch immediately, even though the investment is modest. We’ve been working closely with each owner to ensure the transition is smooth, affordable, and fully compliant with our sustainability standards.

We are pleased to share that we are now down to just a small number of homes awaiting conversion. Our target is to ensure that every Short Let Space property uses refillable, plastic-free toiletry solutions by early 2026.

Why This Matters

Sustainability isn’t just a trend, it’s an essential responsibility. As a leading provider of short-term rentals in Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds, we want to demonstrate how the holiday-let sector can reduce waste, minimise environmental impact, and make greener choices without compromising guest comfort.

By removing thousands of plastic bottles from circulation each year, we are taking a meaningful step toward a more sustainable hospitality model – one that benefits our guests, homeowners, local communities, and the environment.
