Visit Chipping Norton in 2022

Chipping Norton, popularly called ‘Chippy’ by locals, is situated on the highest point in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds. Historically, it was a centre for the Cotswold wool trade and was granted a Royal charter by King John in 1205.

Things to do in Chipping Norton
Like many other Cotswold towns, Chipping Norton offers a diverse range of activities. Chipping Norton prospered thanks to the wool trade, and its Bliss Tweed Mill remains a key monument to this day. The Bliss Mill factory has a domed based chimney and looks like a mix of a mansion and a folly. There are other historic listed structures such as almshouses, churches, the Town Hall, and a diverse range of independent businesses, centuries-old bars, cafes, and lodging.

The vibrant town of Chipping Norton, popularly known as “Chippy,” hosts a variety of festivals throughout the year, including the well-known Chipping Norton Literary Festival. The medieval market area, located in the centre of the town, is where most of the events and festivals occur. The Town Hall, the Guidhall, and the Chipping Norton Theatre are all located here. Where will you begin in Chipping Norton, with so many things to do?

Before you set out, pop in to Tickittyshake for a bag of sweets and a shake – it’s a fabulous little business in the town, loved by all. If you have kids, their sister-shop a few doors down, Tickittyboo, is another one not to miss.
