Flexible, ad hoc work inspecting short-term rental homes

Short Let Space is an established Oxford-based agency providing professionally managed furnished homes for short stays, extended visits, corporate accommodation and relocations. Our Oxford portfolio includes apartments, townhouses and family homes, each prepared to welcome guests from the UK and overseas.

We are looking for a reliable and highly observant person to carry out periodic ready-to-let inspections at our short-term rental properties around Oxford.

About the role

Imagine you are arriving at a short-term rental home as a guest. You expect everything to be clean, comfortable, working correctly and ready for your stay.

Your role will be to view each property through the eyes of that arriving guest.

Following the housekeeper’s visit, you will inspect their work and complete a series of tried-and-tested, property-specific checks. These inspections help us identify anything that has been missed and ensure that every home meets the standards our guests expect.

Checks may include:

  • Inspecting the cleanliness and presentation of each room
  • Checking that beds, bathrooms and kitchens have been prepared correctly
  • Confirming that essential guest supplies are available
  • Testing lights, appliances and other household equipment
  • Checking that furniture and accessories are in their correct places
  • Spotting maintenance issues, damage or missing items
  • Taking clear photographs and recording your findings digitally
  • Reporting anything that needs attention before the guest arrives

Who we are looking for

You will need:

  • A meticulous eye for detail
  • A reliable, organised and methodical approach
  • The ability to accept occasional assignments with two to three days’ notice
  • The ability to travel independently around Oxford by bicycle, bus or car
  • An inquisitive mindset and a willingness to investigate anything that does not look right
  • Confidence using digital systems, smartphones and online checklists
  • An interest in using AI tools to improve productivity, accuracy and effectiveness
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • The confidence to raise concerns clearly and promptly
  • The ability to work independently and follow property-specific instructions

You do not need previous property inspection experience. Full training will be provided, including guidance on our standards, inspection procedures and digital systems.

Working pattern

This is flexible, ad hoc work rather than a fixed-hours role. Inspections will be offered periodically according to guest bookings and operational requirements. Most assignments will take place at properties in and around Oxford.

The role may suit a student, freelancer or someone with other flexible commitments who takes pride in getting the small details right.

Why the role matters

A well-prepared home creates an excellent first impression and helps guests relax from the moment they arrive. Your inspections will provide an important final quality check, supporting our housekeeping and property management teams while helping Short Let Space deliver a consistently high standard across its Oxford homes.

How to apply

Please send us a short introduction explaining:

  • Why this role interests you
  • Your general availability
  • How you would travel between properties
  • Your experience using digital or AI tools
  • An example of when your attention to detail helped you identify or prevent a problem
