Short Let Space Going Plastic Free

At Short Let Space, we’re proud to announce that we have now we have eliminated single-use plastic toiletries across all of our properties and replaced them with high-quality refillable glass bottles. As key leaders in the holiday-let sector in Oxford, The Cotswolds and surrounding areas, we believe it is our responsibility to be a leading example in doing our part to reduce our use of plastic. This forms a key part of our long-term commitment to providing more eco-friendly, sustainable short-term rentals in our properties.

This project has been a long transition as we have been working with our property owners to implement this. We are aware that not everyone was able to make this transition straight away in today’s economy but remained committed to a gradual process. Short Let Space has remained dedicated, collaborating with our housekeepers and suppliers to make sure every detail is correct.

Our impact is significant: we have estimated that across our portfolio we would be using more than 12,000 single-use plastic toiletry bottles every year. With our portfolio rapidly growing this would only amount to more, which is a considerable amount of unnecessary plastic waste, damaging our environment. Alongside providing our guests with a positive experience in our properties, we want to do this by simultaneously doing good for our planet.

2.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide is generated by producing 1 tonne of plastic, which is contributing to global warming as it traps the sun’s heat in the atmosphere. 400 million tons of plastic are produced each year, and this number is forecast to triple by 2060 (UNEP, 2025). By reducing our plastic usage in our properties we are consciously making the effort to not contribute to this forecast and encourage all other businesses to take part.

Not only does this reduce plastic waste, but it also enhances the look and feel of our holiday cottages, serviced homes and apartments. Guests increasingly prefer properties that offer sustainable toiletries, and refillable solutions are now considered best practice in the hospitality sector.

If you are a short-term rental owner in Oxford, the Cotswolds or the surrounding area and would like to discuss how we can help you to manage your property, or to improve your home’s performance, please feel free to contact our expert team today on 01993 222 200.
