Oxford Castle and Prison
Originally a Norman fortress, and later a notorious prison, the Oxford Castle offers a slice of history, just minutes from the centre of town. Visitors to the Castle and Prison can venture underground to the crypt, explore prison cells from the eighteenth century, and climb the castle tower to enjoy stunning views of the city. The Castle also hosts a jail-break themed escape room – so older visitors can test their problem-solving skills against the clock. The Castle is host to a gift shop stocking historically-themed gifts (including replicas of medieval weapons, tankards, and mead!) while the wider Castle Quarter offers a generous choice of bars and restaurants.
