Donnington Brewery

The Donnington Brewery is a small brewery in Gloucestershire, England, near the village of Donnington, near Stow-on-the-Wold.

In 1865, Thomas Arkell started brewing at this location. Claude Arkell, a descendent, ran the brewery until his death in 2007, when it passed to Claude’s cousins, Peter and James from Arkell’s Brewery.

The Grade II listed cotswold stone structure, with an adjoining overshot waterwheel powered by the waters of the River Dikler, was built in 1291. By the 16th century, the original grain mill had been transformed to a fabric mill, and it was renovated around 1580. The majority of the extant structures date from the late 18th and early 19th centuries .

There are currently 15 tied pubs through which the beer is sold. A “Donnington run” is when you go to all 15 pubs in one evening. All 15 pubs are connected by a walkway known as the Donnington Way.
