Pitt Rivers Museum
Housing the University of Oxford’s archaeological and anthropological collections, the Pitt Rivers Museum contains over half a million exhibits. Perhaps unconventionally, the manuscripts, photographs, and objects are grouped according to their purpose, rather than according to their location or the time period of origin. Visitors to the museum can follow trails (with many suitable for families), borrow a free family guidebook, and borrow a torch in order to explore some of the museum’s darker corners. In addition to the exhibits, the hand-written labels can also be fascinating – capturing the evolution of the museum over time.
